Rotorua is famous for being the home of geothermal activity and Maori culture. When visiting Rotorua, you can expect Geysers, bubbling mud pools, hot thermal springs and Te Wairoa (“The Buried Village”) — which was buried by the 1886 Mt. Tarawera eruption. This land is like nothing you’ve ever seen and is definitely worth a visit!
There are endless activities to try in the area – from Gondola and Luge rides to Jet Boat rides. Adrenaline junkies can try a Crater Walk, Whitewater Rafting or Ziplining!
Also easily accessible from Rotorua is the Hobbiton movie set for all you Hobbit fans out there! Located in Matamata, only an hour from Rotorua, you won’t want to miss this stop. No Instagram feed is complete without that famous shot of the Shire!
